i was chating with that person in a chat window while watching online tv. The person asked for my email. I opted not to give my email. What i want to know is whether he/she could have done any sort of harm to me by knowing my email id. Pls help

    not really, its just an e-mail i guess. at most they could find out your full name :s or find your myspace or something which would have more information about you..although, its all up to you. if you don't feel comfortable giving someone you don't know your email, don't.

    The only thing that they could do is send you harassing messages or spam, or they could give your email address to other spammers. Yahoo have a great service called Address Guard which allows you to give out "disposable" email addresses. They're temporary addresses that link to your actual email, but the person you give them to never actually sees your proper email. If you decide you don't want any messages from them, you simply delete the temporary address.
